Satchmo SummerFest is one of the biggest music festivals that take place in New Orleans. The festival was started on 2001 and within a short span of time it evolved to be an international Jazz festival with participation of musicians and audience from all over the world.

The festival is named after Louis Satchmo Armstrong, one of the most notable jazz artists in the history of music. He is credited for the mass popularization of jazz music in USA. This renowned son of New Orleans was not only a recording industry superstar; he was a movie star as well.

Satchmo SummerFest was started as a tribute to the contribution of Satchmo Armstrong to commemorate his 100th anniversary. In the first year, the festival was so much successful that it was established as an annual event.

Satchmo SummerFest takes place around the Old US Mint opposite the French Market at Barracks Street and Esplanade Avenue. The 2010 festival is scheduled to be held on April 23 to May 2. Ticket can be purchased in advance through Ticketmaster.com. Limited discounts are also offered for group tickets. According to the primary list the probable performers of the festival include Aretha Franklin, Pearl Jam, Allman Brothers Band, Levon Helm, My Morning Jacket, Widespread Panic, The Black Crowes, Van Morrison, B B King, Jeff Beck, The Dead Weather and more.
